Lesson One

Subject: Lesson One Sat Sep 06, 2008 11:22 am

"Welcome, class!" I said. "This is our first class of Charms and Spells! Today we will be learning a simple charm, the Levitation charm." I tap the chalk board with my wand, and this shows up:

Wingardium Leviosa (Levitation Charm)
Pronunciation: win-GAR-dee-um lev-ee-OH-sa
Description: Levitates objects.

I listen intently, my Unicorn Hair and Yew wand by my side.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" I yell, pointing my wand at a pile of books in the back of the classroom and doing the swish and flick motion. I let a book drop onto each desk. "These books are Miranda Goshawk's Standard Book of Spells, All Grades. I expect you to keep them in your classroom." I paused. "Now for the charm. Win-gar-dium Levi-oh-sa. Make sure you do this movement."

I decided not to try it on my book first, so I took a baby pencil from my pencil case, closed my eyes, and tried.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" I said, trying the motion. I opened my eyes and saw my baby-pencil in flames.

"Good try, Devin," I said. "Remember the 'gar' and 'oh'. And the 'swish and flick.'"

"Okay," I say, willing to try until I get it. This time I keep my eyes open and say, "Wingardium Leviosa!" I take professor B-P's tips, and polish my swish and flick. I watch in amazment as my pencil floats in mid-air. I tell it to land and smile a HUGE smile. Very Happy

"Amazing!" I say. "Everyone, see, Devin has done it!" In a softer voice, I say, "Five points to Ravenclaw!"

I smile large and then say to Professor B-P, "I'll need more help with the more non-basics, otherwise your classroom will go up in flames." I laugh at myself.

"Good, whens our next class?" I ask, for once excited about Charms and Spells.

I thought. "Well, I think we're going to repeat this lesson, since almost nobody attended," I sighed. "I'll take you aside and get you started with lesson two."

"Thank you!" I say and scurry out of the class, wand and textbook in hand.
